Chicken strike
Saturday 11/10 12.30-16.00
Course leader: Anna Bauer
Course description:
Hönsestrik is a cult, freer form of pattern knitting that originated in 1970s Denmark. Characteristic are the colorful pattern borders and the knitted personal and political messages. In recent years, Hönsestrik has found new expressions in guerrilla crafts. Hönsestrik is pure unskilled knitting, without pointers and where you have the opportunity to let loose and revel in colors and patterns and fill your knitting with your own content.
Course content: A taste of Hönsestrik The history behind Hönsestrik, inspiration, technique tips, color theory, pattern cavalcade and of course knitting!
We will get acquainted with Hönsestrik by starting to knit a smaller project.
Materials: Bring your own knitting needles, circular knitting needles and/or double pointed needles no. 2.5 or 3.
Yarn is available for purchase on site at cost price. It is also possible to bring your own yarn. Compendium 50 SEK.

Gansey knitting
Sunday 12/10 at 12.30-16.00
Course leader Anna Josefsson
A knitted gansey, smart solutions and beautiful surface patterns!
Try knitting details and surface patterns from English fisherman's sweaters, so-called Ganseys.
Our course leader shows pictures and shows 4 different details on the shirts she has with her.
While we knit, we discuss the history and construction of the garments. We knit braids, fields and ladders and learn more about how these sweaters have been knitted and used, and see what details help to give the garments a nice fit.
The course leader provides patterns on a sample patch in the form of wrist warmers or similar small knitting.
Material:
Bring: a round yarn that fits knitting needles size 3.5 (e.g. frangipani or Rauma 3-ply wool yarn) and circular knitting needles or double pointed needles size 2, 5, 3 and 3.5.
Materials for test knitting are also available for purchase from the course leader.
Prerequisites: For best results, you should be able to knit and purl and
also tried knitting with circular needles. If you want to try knitting with gansey yarns, you can buy a sample ball from the course leader.

Double-ended knitting
Saturday 11/10 at 12.30-16.00
Course leader Kerstin Jönsson
Double-ended knitting is the name of an old Nordic knitting technique. As the word double-ended knitting says, you always knit with two thread ends, either from the same skein or from two different skeins. We will start by casting on stitches and knitting straight stitches in the traditional way, which is slightly different from how many of us usually knit today. Holding the yarn in the right hand is usually the big challenge.
Double crocheting a bracelet can be quite a challenge to start with if you don't want to start something bigger. The course is suitable for those of you who have not done double-ended knitting before, but also for those of you who have tried double-ended knitting before and want to rehearse to get started again.
When double-ended knitting, you usually use a 2-strand yarn that is Z-twisted, i.e. twisted in the opposite direction to the S-twisted yarn we usually use when we knit.
But for test knitting, S-twisted yarn will do if you cannot get hold of Z-twisted yarn.
Det viktigaste är att du har ett starkt garn (som inte går av när du drar i det)
grovlek c:a 300 m/100g. Du behöver även ett spel (5 stycken) strumpstickor 2½ (eller lång rundsticka om du kan sticka med magic loop).
Notepads and scissors are usually good to have with you.
To enjoy this workshop you should be used to knitting in the round on double pointed needles, the technique can also be knitted with magic loop if you prefer (but this is not something we teach during the course).

Presentation
Course leader Camilla Sten.
Together with my brother, I run Hamra Gård in Åsa, an organic farm with, among other things, Ryafår. The sheep give us lovely wool yarns in natural colors and these are the ones we dye during my courses. I am trained in plant dyeing, among other things, on the farm clearing and have over 20 years of successful and unsuccessful plant dyeing experiences under my belt. I have worked with traditional and historical dye plants from our local area, as well as more modern techniques and imported pigments and plants. Holding courses and exchanging experiences is perhaps the most fun thing about the craft and I am really looking forward to spreading the craft and creativity during the two courses at Rydal!
There is yarn from my own organic sheep for participants to purchase, either during the course or at our table at the fair. Regular price (for 2- and 3-ply natural dyed) is 250 SEK/hour, course participants have a 15% discount (on 2- and 3-ply yarns) throughout the entire Knitting and Spinning Party
