Shining Window

Shining Window - Rydals Museum

Categories: Culture/History

Shining windows in Rydal is an advent calendar where each window is an installation in a window in the old spinning factory. The hatches are created by private individuals or representatives from associations, companies, village teams and public activities. The calendar is viewed from the outside and can be seen at the times when the windows are lit.

Every day between First Advent and Christmas Eve, one or more windows are lit. After a window is lit, it is then lit daily between 05.00-09.00 and 15.00-24.00, up to and including the Sunday of Pentecost. During the weekends until Christmas Eve and the last viewing weekend, visitors are offered workshops and other activities by the Lysande fönstertagarna in collaboration with Rydal's museum.

The inspiration for the advent calendar is taken from Saltaire in England, which has organized a Living Advent Calendar since 2006. During the event Lysande fönster in Rydal, exchange and cooperation takes place between the two towns of Saltaire and Rydal.

Shining windows in Rydal aim to create participation, joy and community. Anyone who wishes to participate can participate. There is no jury assessment. With the event, we want to highlight entrepreneurship, power and creativity and increase Rydal's attractiveness as a visitor destination.
